Jones could be next up for high-flying Calzaghe

Joe Calzaghe has been handed the offer of a lucrative Cardiff homecoming against four-weight world champion Roy Jones.

Jones could be next up for high-flying Calzaghe

The 39-year-old Jones was a keen ringside observer and stressed his desire to cap his career by securing a super-fight against Calzaghe at the Millennium Stadium.

The fight would appear a natural for Calzaghe, whose victory made him number one in two different weight divisions concurrently, and who could guarantee a massive gate against the high-profile Florida star.

Calzaghe said: “Roy Jones is a tremendous ambassador for the sport and he can still fight. He’s still got that speed and that bit of magic there. But I’ve beaten one legend tonight and I’ll beat another one.”

Calzaghe will jet off for a holiday in the Caribbean before returning to consider his options. Jones tops a list which may also include current world middle-weight champion Kelly Pavlik.
