His girls may have come up short in last night’s U18 National Cup final but double-seeking Glanmire basketball coach Mark Scannell is helping revive the glory days on Leeside with his dynamic leadership. Michael Moynihan reports.

MARK SCANNELL nods when you ask about last year, when Team Montenotte Hotel Glanmire swept the boards on the biggest basketball weekend of the year by taking the U18, U20 and Senior ladies’ cups home.

“Last year . . . it was a funny year,” says Scannell. “We’d won the league two years ago, and it was the first trophy for the club as senior outfit. We brought in a couple of players and it looked like we’d do well.
