Owen McKenna’s class-act can end the year on a high by landing the 8,000 to-the-winner Tinys Bud Open 550 Stakes. Express Comet has been largely impressive in his two outings in the stake to date.
Always in control when carding 29.90 in the opening round, he again showed his rivals the way round when following up in 29.97 last week.
Express Comet has a trap three draw with which to contend but, if starting in his usual slick manner, can prove equal to the task.
It’s also worth noting that McKenna has sent out a winner and a second in this stake in the last two years.
Large Mac and Jaxerback head the list of dangers.
A game 30.22 heat winner, Large Mac turned in another solid effort when a length runner-up behind Express Comet in the semis.
Large Mac should again go well but is drawn on the ‘wrong side’ of the selection.
Jaxerback, none too clever at the break when a beaten favourite behind Large Mac in the opening round, finishing third, and unlucky in running when second behind Capetown Breeze last week, is capable of a big run from a trap two draw.
The in-form and well drawn Knocka Legend looks the business in the Shannonvale Foods A6 Stake.
Never headed when posting a 29.45 effort in the heats, Pat Galvin’s runner had to dig deep last week and he responded to the challenge, coming from behind to follow up in 29.44.
Clearly going the right way and favoured by another inside slot, Knocka Legend can complete a hat-trick.
Trainer Shane Murphy has his string in fine order and his Blue Casino, on a hat-trick following recent 28.80 and 29.02 victories, can land the Midleton A2 Stakes decider.
