Standing up for old-style football

UPTON PARK might have lost some of its renowned intensity since the main stand was moved back several feet and as a result, I imagine it’s no longer quite such an intimidating place for visiting teams, because the home fans aren’t nearly as in yer face as they once were.

Yet it remains one of my favourite away-day outings.

Even after what was a circuitous stroll to Upton Park, I still managed to buy my match-day programme and make it to my seat, before a ball had been kicked in anger.
