Death of Michael Everard

MICHAEL EVERARD, one of the best known and popular greyhound trainers on the southern circuit, died yesterday after a brave battle with cancer.

Death of Michael Everard

Although seriously ill over the past few months, he still regularly attended meetings at the Cork and Youghal tracks and never lost his good-humoured and unassuming nature. Based in Cork for many years, he was very proud of his Tipperary roots and always made the pilgrimage back to his native Templetuohy for the annual coursing meeting.

He sent out numerous graded and sweepstake winners from his Carrigtwohill kennels. However, he will be best remembered for My Last Hope’s victory in the Oaks final at Harolds Cross in 1982, the same year that his Quality Supreme won the Black Cat Stakes in Kilkenny.
