Hedgehog can make most of rails draw

CURRAHEEN PARK hosts a gala-sponsored benefit meeting tonight, in aid of St. Joseph’s Foundation.

The well drawn Hedgehog makes plenty of appeal in the Breeda Fenn Memorial A5 Stakes, one of two finals on the card.

Trained by John Kiely, Hedgehog came good at the third attempt last week, making all for a clear-cut 29.02 success.

Open to further improvement and ideally sited on the rails, Hedgehog can scoop the €1,500 winner’s prize.

The improving Black Max reads the obvious danger.

John Duggan’s runner made it four wins from five starts when scoring in 298.27 last week, but would be better suited by an inside draw.

Cases can be made for a number of runners in the Golden Maverick A2 Stakes decider, but a little on Witches Were might not go astray. Mossie Twomey’s six-times winner was unlucky when a close third in 28.98 in the heats and should go well.

The ninth race looks best left to Castlelyons Fred. This fellow rattled off a hat-trick, including a couple of sub 29.00 runs here, before finishing an unlucky fourth last time.

Whatever the fate of Black Max, Duggan can collect with Aulton Paul in the fourth race over 575.

This four-times was baulked when a strong finishing second in 29.32 at Youghal and should relish the step up in trip.
