Maher sees bright future for young star
That’s the promise from the former Olympic marathon runner turned sports therapist, Peter Maher, who now treats injured sports people in his clinic outside Carrigaline. He also coaches athletes, including UCC student Brian Murphy. A former Irish universities champion and a member of the Irish 4 x 400m relay team that made the finals at the European championships in Gothenburg last year, he began the season with 48.40 at the Leevale 40th anniversary sports at The Mardyke.
Maher feels that his future is in 800m running. “He has run 1:18.2 for 600m which would indicate that he is capable of running a fast time for 800m.”
