Cragg draws medal favourites

ALISTAIR CRAGG has been drawn in the first of the 3000 metre heats, which get underway at 11.15am this morning, and he will meet two other medal favourites in Jesus Espala (Spain) and the newly-crowned European cross-country champion Mo Farah (GB).

In a similar situation two years ago Cragg beat Farah into second place as both men qualified for the final.

Mark Carroll and Mark Christie are drawn alongside the new French record holder and gold medal favourite Bouabdellah Tahri in the other heat.

David Gillick goes in the second heat of the Men’s 400 metres, timed for 11.52am. Deirdre Ryan is in the first qualification group of the Women’s High Jump, starting at 4.15pm while Thomas Chanley is in the first heat of the Men’s 800 metres at 4.55pm with David McCarthy drawn in Heat Three.
