Dasher can deliver in Guinness decider
The Owen McKenna trained dog stepped up dramatically on his previous best for the distance when running away from his rivals in last week’s semi-finals, coming home no less than ten and a half lengths clear of Skywalker Duke in a very fast 28.25.
That run represented an improvement of .34 on his previous best and, if in the same mood tonight, he will clearly take some beating.
The danger may be Comical Mix. He doesn’t have a great wins-to-runs ratio, but made full use of his inside berth when seeing off Mullaghmore Man last week and looks sure to be involved in the thick of the action from a similar draw here.
Ullid Pilot in two looks likely to be the outsider of the bunch in the betting exchanges. He has only been out of the frame once in 13 runs but, although capable, doesn’t have the best early speed in the race and will need luck in running.
In contrast Wilcos Henri in three has both good early speed and also stays well. However, he has been beaten twice in the competition and needs to improve to figure.
Mullaghmore Man, with 38 previous outings to his name, is the most experienced dog in the line up. He is a model of consistency, with his back straight pace his best asset. He could be one of the main beneficiaries if, for some reason, Daires Dasher fails to repeat his semi-final run.
Skywalker Duke completes the line up. However, he has been second in all three rounds of the competition so far and has it to do from his wide draw.
Tonight’s card is one of the best at the venue for some time with some cracking contests on the undercard, notably the concluding Getting Out Stakes.
All six runners have chances of sorts but the nod goes to Capetown Breeze.
The John Linehan trained runner was baulked at the opening bend when a well beaten fourth behind Farloe Fuzzy last week. However, that was from a wide draw over a longer trip and back in trap one over the standard distance, from which he ran out as easy winner in 28.59 just before Christmas, he can see off Hidden Fantasy.
The Jackpot Stakes should also be a cracker. Belindas Honcho was all out to beat Mardos Fergie by a neck in a similar race last week but from a similar draw tonight has good prospects of following-up.
One to note in the 575 yard tenth race is Jakes Revenge. He will be well suited by the trip (easy winner over it back in November) and can bounce back here having been baulked over the standard trip a month ago.
