BUPA withdraw sponsorship of Cork City Sports

BUPA Ireland has withdrawn as sponsors of the Cork City Sports following their withdrawal from the Irish health insurance market.

As a result of the relationship with the company — stretching back to 2001 — Cork City Sports has become the third best Permit Meeting in Europe.

In recent years the meeting has attracted Olympic, world and European champions to The Mardyke and, as it was held the week after the American championships, the US athletes have used the event to launch their respective European campaigns.

City Sports chairman, Dick Hodgins, said: “We always expected this would happen in view of BUPA’s problems with the Government but, with the review on risk equalisation pending we were always hoping it would not.

“They have been excellent sponsors since 2001 and they have enabled the meeting to grow at a tremendous rate.”
