San Francisco’s 26-23 overtime win in Denver kept the Broncos out of the play-offs but ushered in Kansas City, who beat Jacksonville 30-35.

The New York Jets hammered Oakland 23-3 to join the Giants in the post-season, while New England ended Tennessee’s hopes with a 40-23 win in Nashville.

Brett Favre starred as Green Bay beat Chicago 26-7 and may now opt to retire.

In Dallas, Detroit’s Jon Kitna threw four touchdown passes to go 28-of-42 for 306 yards and set a franchise record for most completions in a season.

His Cowboys counterpart Tony Roma threw for 321 yards and two TDs, but lost two fumbles and had a key interception.

“I can’t tell you how disappointed I am,” said Dallas coach Bill Parcells. “This is the low point for me in a long time.”

Jason Hanson kicked four field goals for the Lions, though the win cost them the top pick in the 2007 NFL draft.

The Raiders’ loss to the Jets means they finish with the worst record in the NFL, giving them first choice. In Denver, Joe Nedney’s 36-yard field goal in overtime sealed victory for the 49ers and killed the Broncos’ play-off plans.

The Kansas City Chiefs earned the final AFC play-off spot by virtue of Denver’s loss and their own 35-30 win over the Jaguars.

Vinny Testaverde threw a touchdown pass for New England in their win over the Titans, setting an NFL record as the first QB to throw for at least one TD in 20 straight seasons.

In the NFC play-offs, the New York Giants play the Eagles in Philadelphia and Dallas face the Seahawks in Seattle in the first round.

New Orleans and Chicago have first-round byes.

In the AFC, Kansas City will go to Indianapolis and the New York Jets will play the Patriots in New England.

San Diego and Baltimore have first-round byes.
