Calzaghe urged to earn place as boxing legend

PROMOTER Frank Warren has urged Joe Calzaghe to establish himself as an all-time global great, starting with tomorrow night’s WBO and IBF super-middleweight title defence against Sakio Bika.

Warren describes the 34-year-old Welshman as the finest British fighter he has ever seen and believes he would have beaten any one of the 12-stone stars from the early 1990s.

Now he believes “legendary status” awaits if Calzaghe disposes of tough Cameroonian Bika in his 19th title defence and continues to reign for the remainder of his career.
