Burke 24th in Germany
Having lowered just one fence in three preceding rounds with her stallion Chippison, the Clare woman went into Saturday’s competition in 10th place of the 25 riders to progress.
However, she then accumulated 25 faults — five fences knocked, major trouble at the water and one time fault — to finish in 24th place.
“After we jumped into the water, that really put us off our stride. He went on to knock three of the last four fences home, one after the other.
“I did not opt to go in round two, as I was conscious that the final of the Samsung Super League in Barcelona is coming up and, also, I had nothing to gain or prove.”
Belgian Jos Lansink, riding the stallion Cavalor Cumano, was crowned the world champion.
