Rider fined for excessive whip use

SWEDISH rider Helena Lundback was yesterday fined 3,000 Swiss francs after she was seen mistreating a horse on Tuesday in training for the Dublin Horse Show.

The Federation Equestre Internationale said its Judicial Committee, presided over by Irishman Philip O’Connor, heard evidence that: “Ms Lundback was witnessed making excessive use of a whip on her horse Conan in the show’s exercise area.” The statement said Ms Lundback had apologised and that her actions “arose unintentionally when the horse suddenly reared”.
