Shinkins to miss European Championships

KAREN SHINKINS has withdrawn from this weekend’s Woodies DIY National Track and Field Championships and is also out of next month’s European Championships in Gothenburg.

Winner of the national 400m title nine times, she has been on treatment for an overuse injury since the Lee Strand International in Castleisland where she withdrew from the 200m after warming up.

Yesterday she announced that she will not be defending her title and this will deprive the championships of what promised to be an exciting head to head between herself and in-form Joanne Cuddihy from Kilkenny.
