OLYMPIC medallists Kostas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou have accepted bans for doping violations prior to the 2004 Athens Olympics and will be eligible to compete from December.

Greek athletics stars accept doping bans

Kenteris, the 200 metres champion at the 2000 Olympics, and Thanou, who won silver in the 100m at the same games, had been charged after missing three drug tests in Tel Aviv and Chicago and again in Athens on the eve of the opening ceremony.

They had also been issued with an official warning by world governing body the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) after they were found to be training in Qatar rather than Crete as they had told Greek athletics officials. The pair had been banned by the IAAF after the Greek Athletics Federation refused to sanction them.
