Heart rumbled by kennelmate in Barrys Tea

HEART RUMBLE’S all conquering run came to a dramatic end in the final of the Barrys Tea 750 at Curraheen Park on Saturday night.

Running in his tenth six-bender since April 10th and his fifth in the last three weeks, Heart Rumble was a 5/4 chance in the ring to take the prize but his supporters soon knew their fate.

He was well enough away but Haliska Blueboy (1) and Gobstopper (6) had marginally the better of the opening exchanges.

That meant that Heart Rumble and his market rival, Ballymac Floss, were trapped in the middle around the first two bends and sure to be in trouble if either of the two on the extremities edged sideways.

And that's just what happened as Gobstopper moved in, hampering the pair. Ballymac Floss came off worst, dropping back to last while Heart Rumble was shuffled back to fourth.

Gobstopper, Paul Hennessy's second string in the final, led passing the winning line for the first time from Haliska Blueboy.

The order remained the same around the third and fourth bends. Heart Rumble was still close enough halfway down the back when hampered for a second time. That put paid to his chance as up front Gobstopper was galloping on resolutely.

He was four lengths to the good turning for home and ran on well up the straight to easily account for Sonatina, who won the battle for second with Haliska Blueboy close home.

The winner, a 14/1 chance, clocked a time of 41.99.
