There was no joy for Ireland at Henley Royal Regatta yesterday. Commercial Rowing Club, Dublin, holders of the Men’s Quadruple Sculls, lost to Molesey Boat Club, England, by one quarter of a length.

The Commercial crew of bow Albert Maher, 2, Ciaran Lewis, 3, Sean Jacob, stroke Con Collis, fought every inch of the way but the English crew won by a quarter of a length in six minutes, 51 seconds.

Galway native Serryth Colbert of Leander Club, England, won the Ladies’ Challenge Plate for Eights, defeating Harvard University (USA) by three-quarters of a length in six minutes, 30 seconds.
