Williamson meets Olympic standard

TEAM IRELAND swimmer Michael Williamson joined Emma Robinson in achieving the “A” qualifying time for the Olympics when he swam at the British Trials yesterday.

Williamson meets Olympic standard

Competing in the 200 metre breaststroke Michael finished in second place in the semi-finals in a time of 2.14.18, (.02 inside the qualifying time of 2.14.20) which would have put him third fastest going into the final.

However, as the finals are restricted to British swimmers, he did not swim, but was happy to achieve the qualifying time ahead of Andrew Bree, who has yet to achieve this Long Course time.

Williamson and Robinson are among the swimmers competing at the Irish Long Course Championships, in the National Aquatic Centre, Abbotstown from Friday, April 16 to Sunday April 18.
