Gaskin upsets fancied Ayerst to reach quarter-finals

Gaskin got off to a good start, keeping Ayerst on the move with cross-courts drives. Gaskin looked strong as he kept Ayerst pinned to the back of the court. Gaskin went over on his ankle at the end of the second set and in the third this seemed to hamper him.

Ayerst took full advantage of Gaskin losing his concentration and won the third set. But Gaskin then knuckled down and brought his professionalism into play to win the fourth 9-2.
