Coláiste Chríost Rí going to the dogs for new gym

CORK secondary school, Coláiste Chríost Rí host a fundraising evening at Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium on Thursday.

The event has been organised by the school’s Building Committee, which was established to further the building of a new gymnasium.

The project design was launched on Jan 24 by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheal Martin T.D. Once government funding is secured, the schools contribution to the cost of such a development will be in the region of €30,000.

The committee is extremely confident of raising this amount on the night. Approximately 3,000 tickets have been sold for the event.

Committee Chairman Mick Evans said: “Our school has a long and proud tradition in sport. Our achievements are all the more remarkable when one takes into consideration the fact that we do not have an adequate gymnasium in our school. We are asking for no more and no less than comparable schools.

“When we are successful in our fundraising, we will be asking the Dept of Education and Science to fulfil its side of the arrangement and provide the necessary funding to enable the project to be brought to fruition.”

The committee is inviting as many people as possible to attend on the night. The first race begins at 7:45pm.
