THE tsunami disaster in Asia has had an immediate impact on sport in the region, with the 10th South Asian Games, scheduled for Sri Lanka in August, postponed as the nation concentrates on rebuilding after the recent tragedy.

Given the strength of cricket in the region, it is no surprise that a number charity games have been organised. The international match planned for Melbourne next Monday between an Asian XI and a Rest of the World XI features some of the biggest names in the sport. The International Cricket Council has decided the tsunami appeal matches will have official status.
