Joyce causes sculling upset

Eamon Joyce of Cork BC and the Cork sculling ladder caused a major upset at the sixth Guinness sculling challenges when he defeated Enda Marron of Lady Victoria boat club and the Belfast sculling league and Sean Jacob of Commercial rowing club and the Dublin sculling ladder in Belfast on Saturday.

Joyce, who finished number three in this year’s Cork ladder, was called in as a late replacement in the annual fixture.

Orla Duddy of QUBLBC and the Belfast sculling league won the Women’s race by ten lengths from Sandra Wall of Clonmel RC and the Cork sculling ladder, with Siobhán Jacob of Commercial RC and the Dublin sculling ladder a further three quarters of a length behind.
