PAT HICKEY considered quitting as Olympic Council of Ireland president five years ago following a campaign to oust him from the role.

In 2001, Richard Burrows of the Irish Sailing Association stood against Hickey for the presidency of the OCI.

The Athletes Commission, made up of Olympians from the previous three summer and winter Games, unanimously endorsed Burrows but did not have a vote at the AGM held in Jury’s Hotel.
