Foley gives Dynamos impetus for victory

And in truth, the Cork side, who trailed 15-7 at the break, never even looked like getting back into the game.

This was a spectacular opening from Foley who came away from the game with the reputation of a cool shooter who went close to a 100% record from the free throw line.

In fact, free throws made up much of her 21 point contribution and it was four from four in the opening minutes of the game that had Glanmire reeling.

Vivienne Shaw had them on the ropes with two three pointers and Gillian Boland opened her account with two baskets before Foley hit them for six and by the end of the opening quarter it had already become painfully obvious that the heart had been knocked out of Glanmire.

It was not that Glanmire did not have the talent to match Drimnagh - it was the difficulty getting it all together in one effective package after what was a nervous start.

By the half time break Drimnagh were leading 37-18 with Foley already on 14 points and Janet Byrne on eight while Gillian Boland had already completed her scoring with nine.

At that point one was looking around the court for the likes of Sarah Jane O’Connell, Marie Breen and Sarah Healy.

Healy came out in the second half and hit Drimnagh with seven points in the third quarter but Drimnagh continued to grow in confidence with every bounce of the ball and were still 17 points clear and coasting at the end of the third quarter.

Glanmire finally got over their nerves in the fourth quarter with baskets from Marie O’Brien and Sarah Jane O’connell and three pointers from Sara Coakley and Lindsay Allen that cut the deficit to 10 points but it was all too little too late as Drimnagh claimed a deserving victory.
