UL and Wildcats look set for a battle royale

NEITHER University of Limerick nor Bausch & Lomb Wildcats want to wear the favourites tag going into the ESB Cup final weekend. But, even in advance of tonight’s semi-finals, it is fairly safe to predict that one of them will emerge with the title.

Tonight Wildcats take on newcomers Drimnagh Dynamos for a place in the final and it would take a major upset to keep them out. UL face a slightly more difficult task, but they take on Tolka Rovers, the 1999 champions, happy in the knowledge that they beat them at the same stage in the competition last year and when they crossed paths again in the Superleague this season UL were comprehensive 75-49 winners.

“But I would still say Wildcats will be favourites,” Eimer Kyne, former UL star and now press officer for the club, insisted.
