Technical Interlagos win for Raikkonen

Giancarlo Fisichella was robbed of what he thought was his first-ever Grand Prix victory at Interlagos yesterday, when, with the Jordan driver having just taken the lead, the race was stopped after an accident involving Renault’s Fernando Alonso.

Under the rules of the sport, if a race is stopped, then the results stand as they were at the end of the previous lap. Uand unfortunately for the Roman, the lead at that time was held by McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen.

"I am very disappointed with the result because we thought we had won, but realistically we are delighted with second place and I am also delighted that Fernando was not seriously hurt in what was obviously a terrible shunt," a crestfallen Fisichella said afterwards.
