Schumacher escapes injury in Monza slam

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER escaped a heavy shunt in testing at Monza yesterday after suffering a tyre failure at high speed.

The newly-crowned world champion was approaching the Italian circuit’s first chicane at around 190mph when his Bridgestone tyre exploded on his 96th lap of testing.

He lost control of the car and slammed into the barriers, tearing off his Ferrari’s rear wing.
