The Irish coxless four won silver at the World University Rowing Championships in France yesterday.

The NUIG quartet of Cormac Folan, Paul Giblin, Alan Martin and Mark Stephens were well beaten by Poland finishing over three seconds down in 6m 32.10s but they beat Britain into 3rd by a similar healthy margin.

Niamh Ni Cheilleachair made the lightweight single sculls final but finished just out of the medals in 4th place, three seconds down on bronze in 8m15.62s.
