Williams duo want answers

WILLIAMS drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher have called for rule clarifications following their respective incidents in the San Marino Grand Prix.

Williams duo want answers

Speaking in Barcelona, ahead of this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix, Montoya said: “I’m going to speak to Charlie Whiting (FIA race director). How can you have a one-move rule and then have Michael Schumacher move left and then right and do nothing about it? That’s two moves.”

Montoya’s gripe is not just the incident at Tosa, where he ended up on the grass, but the lead up to it. He claims he got a run on Schumacher’s Ferrari out of the previous chicane and Schumacher moved left to block him. Montoya wants clarification as to whether the German was within his rights to then move back right.

Ralf Schumacher said: “Montoya should stop whingeing and focus on his driving. It’s unrealistic to criticise Michael and then do what he did to me.”

Montoya moved his teammate onto the grass as Schumacher Jr tried to take advantage of the Colombian’s contact with his brother.

Ralf Schumacher was later spun out by Fernando Alonso and said: “I had to go to the stewards after the race and they said that if he’s alongside, then you’ve got to give him room. But how far alongside is alongside? I want clarification too.”

Heading into the Barcelona weekend, where BAR has excelled in testing, Jenson Button faces a tough task if he is to win his first race.

If Ferrari does a perfect race, as they have pretty much everywhere, it’s going to be hard to beat them here,” said Button.

We are looking strong here, we’ve done a lot of testing and we’ve been quick. And hopefully we’ve made some good ground on Ferrari.”
