Sherriff on target again as Irish trounce Swiss

The Pembroke Wanderers’ ace has been on target nine times in six games. Apart from helping himself to Ireland’s first, at a well-worked penalty corner set-piece, and the fifth, thanks to an inspired delivery from full-back Jason Black, he was also the perfect provider.

When Mark Irwin scrambled home the side’s second on the quarter hour, it was on the rebound from Sherriff’s shot, and when the Instonians forward completed his brace on 52 minutes, it was thanks to a cross by the same player.

However, the most memorable strike of the day in the play-offs for places 9 to 12 came from Chris Jackson, who claimed the fourth on 59 minutes with a high-speed dribble and a rising shot on the run.

IRELAND: W Bateman, P Brown, D Smyth, E Lutton, J Black, C Jackson, S Butler, N Buttimer, A Barbour, J Sherriff, M Irwin. Subs: K Burns, M Raphael, G shaw, D Hobbs, N Henderson.
