Glanmire continue on title charge

The Cork side are now four points clear at the top of the table with nine wins and just one loss.

Mustangs entered this game coming off the back of a heavy 24-point defeat in the cup semi-final against Limerick last Sunday. The Killarney girls struggled to make any impact and Glanmire were never really threatened.

Michelle Fahy and Denise Walsh led the way for Glanmire while coach Mark Scannell also got great performances from bench players Eileen Lyons and Jessica Scannell.

Mustangs stayed in touch through Monica Peterson but Michelle Fahy kept Glanmire in control and the Cork side led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter.

The visitors continued to impress with baskets from Walsh and Scannell while Sinead Leahy played great defence against Peterson.

Glanmire led 32-19 at half-time and they extended their advantage early in the second half. With Denise Walsh playing a captain’s part, Glanmire cruised to a commanding 20-point lead and led 50-30 as the game entered the final quarter.

The final period turned out to be a formality as Mustangs fell asunder. Despite brave efforts from Diane Griffin, Mairead Finnegan and Sinead O’Connell, Glanmire held too many aces with Eileen Lyons, Nollaig Cleary and Amanda O’Regan scoring with ease and regularity.
