Clare lifesavers win two-in-a-row

Clare won the National Surf Lifesaving Championships for their second consecutive year on Whitestrand, Miltown Malbay on Saturday.

Mayo finished second with Donegal and Galway in joint third.

Leitrim won the Novice competition whilst Kilkenny won the best inland County. Niamh Moran from Kildare won the Endeavour Award.

John Leech CEO of Irish Water Safety said: “the surf events are a spectacle of surf swimming races, ski races, surfboard races and events designed to test the lifesaving skills and fitness of the competitors. Many of these athletes have worked as lifeguards around the country all summer ensuring the safety of the public.”
