Broken thumbed Favre shuffles ‘Pack’ to victory

BRETT FAVRE overcame a broken thumb, and his Minnesota hoodoo, to inspire his Green Bay Packers to a 30-27 win over the Vikings in NFL action on Sunday.

Playing with a splint on his right thumb, Favre extended his NFL record for consecutive starts this being his 165th while tossing three touchdown passes as the 'Pack' picked up a critical win on the road.

Washington Redskins quarterback Patrick Ramsay was battered and bruised, as his offensive line failed to protect him once again, this time in the 21-14 loss to bitter rivals the Dallas Cowboys.

Chad Pennington connected with Santana Moss for three touchdowns, and rallied the New York Jets from a 14-point deficit, but Brett Conway's 29-yard field goal with four seconds left in overtime gave the New York Giants a 31-28 victory.

Kyle Boller and Byron Leftwich met in the battle of the rookie starting quarterbacks, and Boller's Baltimore Ravens held on for a 24-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Oakland Raiders committed four turnovers and were well beaten by the Detroit Lions 23-13.

A John Carney 47-yard field goal meant the New Orleans Saints survived a late collapse, to edge out the spluttering defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 17-14.
