When  Anthony Daly wrote a tribute to Shane O’Donnell in these pages after O’Donnell announced his retirement from hurling two weeks ago, Daly outlined the regret he and the Clarecastle club always had that O’Donnell wore red and white when he could have been kitted out in black and white.

O’Donnell once turned up to an U8 session in Clarecastle before moving to Éire Óg because that was the club of the majority of his friends from Ennis National primary school.
