Christy O'Connor: Ryan or Cahill can join Kiely in double territory

John Kiely is the only one of the four to have managed the double, but he will be joined by either Pat Ryan or  Liam Cahill on Sunday; Ryan managed Cork to successive All-Ireland U20 titles in 2020 and 2021; Cahill led Tipp to the last All-Ireland U21 title in 2018, and the first U20 crown in 2019.

On the Irish Examiner Christmas hurling podcast last December, George Hamilton assumed the role as quizmaster, firing questions at Anthony Daly, Mark Landers and TJ Ryan to test their insight and knowledge of the 2024 hurling season, and the multitude of characters associated with such a memorable championship.

One of the questions posed was to name the managers in the 2024 championship who had also guided their county to All-Ireland U20 titles? It was both an easy and hard question as the list stretched to four men. Who were they? Landers and Ryan eventually came up with the answers: Pat Ryan, Liam Cahill, Derek Lyng and John Kiely.
