Maybe we like the misery. Maybe there’s something in the Irish psyche that, deep down, makes us not want to have nice things. Because if we had them, well, what would we have left to complain about?

So thanks for coming, Storm Kathleen. It was a pleasure. We hate to see you go but we love to watch you leave, our loss comforted by the knowledge there’ll be another just like you on the way soon. Love how you huffed and puffed and tried to blow our house down. The way you flood coastal areas. Drench us, drown us, with that sweet, soothing rain.
