Vintage display secures Munster joy for Butler

Christy Butler is Munster Vintage (over-60) champion after a strong performance against Jerry Connolly and DD Carroll at Togher Cross on Sunday.

He won the opening shot. A great second throw gave Carroll the lead. Butler hit back with a big third bowl. Carroll missed it well and he only beat it by 30m with his fourth. Connolly’s fourth was poor and left him a full bowl behind Butler.

Butler pressed on with a brilliant fourth over the bridge. Carroll beat that to keep the lead under a bowl, but Connolly was almost two behind. Connolly and Carroll closed the gap with their next shots, but Connolly went right with his eighth to concede a second bowl. Carroll was unlucky to miss the cross with his seventh. Butler reached it comfortably to hold a lead of one shot on Carroll and two on Connolly.
