He won the opening shot. O’Donovan played a good second. Riordan was right with his reply and missed it by five metres. O’Donovan led till before the Round Tower pub. Riordan got a super eighth to there to regain the lead by 40m. O’Donovan cut that to just five metres with a great bowl up the straight.

O’Donovan missed Pyne’s corner with his next. Riordan made sight and followed with a great throw to raise a bowl. He increased his odds to the black gate. O’Donovan knocked the bowl with a brilliant bowl to the top of the hill. Riordan made a mistake with his next. O’Donovan needed to reach Forshin’s cross to level, but he missed and Riordan made it to regain control.
