It is a question that has been puzzling Bayern Munich supporters in the 10 days since their team returned from the winter break and were knocked sideways in a 4-1 defeat at Wolfsburg.

Bayern seemed set to rewrite the defensive record books until that collapse and a further shock against Schalke in midweek when they dropped their first points at home.
