It is too easy to be cynical about The Lions. But if I have learned anything in life, it is that; if an easy option presents itself, your search for options is over.

So due tribute must be paid to the quite phenomenal amounts of guff being generated at the moment in promotion of this profitable enterprise Down Under.

Sky Sports, naturally, is at the vanguard. Presenter Alex Payne, who, you suspect, could be as ably employed selling HSBC investments or whatever it is they want to sell, opened the brochure for last Saturday’s kickabout at the home of the bank with the fine words; “So begins rugby’s greatest odyssey.”
