Poor coverage of league not just about cash
RTÉ blames cutbacks for some of the missing action this spring; telling us an outside broadcast at a league game pushes costs towards €20,000. Does that mean the national broadcaster spends €120,000 per week, every week covering the Airtricity League? Of course it doesn’t. It makes do with club footage or cut-price one-camera packages. And what a fine, tightly-produced showcase for the league MNS has become.
I’m sure there are other ways we could come up with the few quid, if needs be.
The Social might have been left on the drawing board for starters. That episode of Fair City where Paul and Niamh came home for afternoon delight need never have seen the light of day. If we shut the Montrose canteen earlier, we’d achieve the double whammy of slashed costs and an improved Late, Late.
Where there’s a will there’s a way.
But is there a will?
