BACK in the early part of 2007 I worked in Finland as a commissioning engineer on a new cement plant.

Wanting to maintain a decent level of fitness for when I returned for the championship, I tried my hand at anything that would keep me active.

With outside temperatures in the sub twenties, there wasn’t a whole pile I could do outside of the gym apart from the occasional bit of kamikaze skiing! If my knee ligaments didn’t snap during those few months as I hurtled head over heels down the slopes, I don’t think they ever will (touch wood).
