€75,000 prize fund for Hennerty Laurels

CORK dual star Eoin Cadogan was among those who launched the 2011 Hennerty Sales Irish Laurels at Curraheen Park yesterday evening. The event will again be one of the richest events in the Irish greyhound calendar thanks to the multi sponsorship system and the innovative Nominator Scheme.

€75,000 prize fund for Hennerty Laurels

Liz Igoe reports that the Hennerty Sales Irish Laurels will have a total prizefund in the region of €75,000 with the winner set to receive up to €35,000. Everybody will have an opportunity to get involved in the classic through a ‘Link In’ nomination system. This will boost the prize fund to allow for increased money for the Consolation Laurels and the supporting races on final night.

Pat Hennerty returns as sponsor again and he will have five final night race sponsors in Kudos Catering, Castle Hotel Macroom, Im Slippy Kennels, Harrington Assessors Ltd and Bryan & Kathleen Murphy.

Two leading models were present last night where they teamed up with Cadogan at the launch of the classic which will run from September 23rd to October 22nd.

This year’s nomination system will be similar to last year with nominations costing €100 and each nominator will be linked to a greyhound taking part in the classic. The Nominators will then follow their dog through the classic as they meet the owner and trainer and win €5,000 if the dog wins the final. There will be a bonus of €12,000 in the event of the dog breaking the track record in the final.

Sponsor Pat Hennerty, who sold race cards at the old Western Road track as a 13-year-old, said: “Last year was a fantastic success for our inaugural sponsorship. Becoming a nominator gives people a great opportunity to get involved and gives them a sense of ownership of the event, providing up to five weeks of entertainment and, of course, the chance to win €17,000”.
