THE Ladbrokes.com Irish Derby is generally acknowledged as the greatest greyhound race in the world and its status is to receive a major boost this year with the news that a strong Australian challenge is being lined up for the classic which is set to commence on August 4th.

For the past two years we have had an American challenger for the Ladbrokes.com Irish Derby in the shape of Kiowa Myth but the news that some of Australia’s best greyhounds will be coming this year is really exciting.

The news has come from Melbourne that Victoria trainers Graeme Bate and Robert Britton intend to bring teams of greyhounds over to Ireland with the Derby the specific target. The two Lara based trainers have decided to pool their talents and make a genuine bid to win the Irish Derby.
