Elegant claims semi-final spot in run-off
In last Saturday’s concluding second round heat Elegant Rumble had dead-heated for third place with Voodoo Doctor behind the winner Paid Paddy. The connections didn’t agree to a toss to decide and rather brought the dogs back yesterday morning for a run-off.
This time Elegant Rumble won by a length from Voodoo Doctor in 29.23 and he will now occupy the inside trap in the second semi. The draw for this heat now reads: 1 Elegant Rumble; 2 Compass Hodge; 3 Sayitaintso; 4 Gogetemclaire; 5 Paid Paddy; 6 He Told Ted.
The Guinness Trophy semi-finals will head a very interesting card on Saturday and adding to the occasion will be the parade of the four Cork winners at last week’s National Coursing Meeting at Clonmel.
The four champions to be paraded during racing are Rose O’Driscoll’s Oaks winner Skellig Babe, Elaine Guiney’s Champion Bitch Class Attraction, Tom Spillane’s Keen Laddie hero Gurteen Oscar and the Norris/Treacy/Horgan Syndicate owned Chiang Mia, winner of the Spirit Of Mischief.
The Guinness Trophy is being run in conjunction with a promotion among 36 of the leading pubs in Cork City.
The pubs still in contention approaching Saturday’s semi-finals are:
Heat 1 — 1 The Rock Bar, Gillabbey St; 2 Quirkes, Ballyphehane; 3 The Kerrymans, Dillons Cross; 4 Three Horseshoe, Old Youghal Road; 5 Tom Lynch’s, Barrick St; 6 High House, Blarney St.
Heat 2: 1 Joshua Tree, Blarney St; 2 Turners Cross Tavern, Turners Cross; 3 Old Reliable, Shandon St; 4 Mok’s Bar, Bandon Rd; 5 Bakers St, Bakers Road; 6 The Ashburton, Gardners Hill.
