Shelbourne set to re-open after litany of problems

THERE was relief in the voice of Shelbourne racing manager Declan Carey when he confirmed yesterday morning that racing will definitely resume at Shelbourne Park tomorrow night.

It will be the first meeting since the Saturday before Christmas at the track which has been hit by postponements due to frost, snow and subsequent flooding due to burst pipes. There will be limited facilities at the track over the next month or so as refurbishment work proceeds but the good news is that racing can resume at headquarters.

Testing of the Tote equipment went on until late on Monday and the machines are now ready to resume business tomorrow night. There will be no Wednesday racing at the track for the remainder of January while there will be no Monday night racing at Harold’s Cross for the remainder of the month either.
