Sponsors to join forces for bonanza Laurels final night
In recent years the Laurels has been sponsored by Cashmans Bookmakers and it is nice to see Liam Cashman still associated with the night as one of the sponsors on the undercard.
While full details have yet to be confirmed, it looks as though the Hennerty Sales Irish Laurels will be one of the most valuable competitions in the Irish calendar behind the Derby. It has been stated that the prize for the winner should be in excess of €35,000 which would reverse the current trend of reduced prizemoney for all major competitions.
Pat Hennerty said: “The Laurels is the biggest event for greyhound owners and breeders in Munster, especially Cork, and it is of paramount importance that the prize money and prestige of winning the Laurels is maintained. During these difficult times it makes more economic sense to join forces and sponsor the Laurels Final night as a group of dedicated followers of greyhound racing, whilst providing more businesses the opportunity to share in the glory of being associated with a Classic event.”
Liz Igoe, Commercial Manager at Curraheen Park, said: “The economic downturn has had its effect on greyhound racing, To combat this we have come up with a way of sharing the sponsorship opportunities, which in turn maintains the prize money at levels which the Laurels deserves”.
The first round of the Pat Hennerty Sales Laurels will commence on Friday, September 17 with the final on Saturday, October 16.
The nine other race sponsors on final night are: Liam Cashman, Cummins Sport, Castle Hotel Macroom, Greyhound & Pet World Abbeyfeale, Pat Daly Electrical, David Harrington Assessors, Kudos Catering, Richie and Helen O’Regan and Bryan & Kathleen Murphy.
