Waterford pair have strong hand in National

THE formidable Waterford father and daughter team of Mick Brennan and Julie Power must have a major chance of repeating last year’s success in the Vetsearch Irish Grand National following Monday’s first round action at Harold’s Cross.

Not alone did their reigning champion Distant Legend clock a brilliant best of the night 29.09 in the concluding heat but they also turned out Lisacaha King to win Heat 2 in 29.25, while their The Other State was a good second behind Junior Mac in 29.22.

Lisacaha King produced the upset of the night as he came from well off the pace to beat the hugely hyped UK jumper Platinumlancelot in 29.25.
