On the day the All-Stars were announced last November, I wrote in these pages that the one person in Kilkenny who wouldn’t be too disappointed the county didn’t get a single award – within reason – was Derek Lyng. Why? Because it would give Derek another reason to rile up his players for 2025 - and give Kilkenny another chance to prove they are better than a lot of people seem to think.

It's only mid-March but how good are Kilkenny anymore? What they have been showing isn’t great. They can go on about three red cards last week, and how the match descended into a farce when it was 14v12, but that was the lamest and tamest performance I can remember from Kilkenny. And against Tipperary? Jeez, I wouldn’t like to have been a player down there this week with the grief aimed in their direction.
